How to insert TNRIS map into Carlson

TNRIS is a wonderful website that provide high quality aerial (and more wonderful stuff) for free. However, putting these images into CAD drawing might be a little tricky.

And just when Carlson support inserting sid type image, then TNRIS change their images file type to jp2.

It's probably easier with AutoCAD Map, or Microstation v8i, or fancy Civil 3D, ARCGIS, but I only have Carlson Embedded Survey on my computer.

Here is what I do insert aerial images to my CADD drawing using Carlson software.

1)    Convert *. jp2 as *.jpg (I would recommend using Irfanview)
2)    Rename *.j2w file as *.jgw  (this file is not in the latest zip package of 2012, you have to download the zip 2010 to get it).
3)   Put the *.jpg and *.jpw in the same folder, it will have the same name too.
4)    In a new drawing in Carlson, set up :
a.    Metric
b.    Coordinate System: Grid
c.    Projection: UTM
d.    Zone: 15 (example only, double check this number with the txt file attached in TNRIS zip package)
5)    GIS menu / Place image by Word File >> choose *.jgw fle

TO TRANSFER UTM METERS TO NAD83

6)    In UTM meters drawing: Annotate / Label Lat Long with 2 points in the aerial picture.
7)    Make new drawing in Carlson, set up for NAD 83 project accordingly.
8)    Xref UTM meters drawing into NAD 83 drawing
9)    CGCogo >> NAD83>> create 2 points with Lat Long coordinates as in step 5.
10)    Align and scale two label points with 2 NAD 83 coordinates points.
